More people making things means more machines running, and every machine eventually needs a part made or a worn one repaired. Two series from the Bureau of Labor Statistics tell the story of Northern Nevada manufacturing over the last decade, and the story is worth reading before you plan maintenance for a plant that is growing. ## The county where the jobs grew fastest The Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages counted 870 private manufacturing jobs in Storey County in 2015, in 27 establishments. By 2025 the count was 15,168 jobs in 38 establishments, and the average annual pay in those jobs had risen from $62,099 to $95,182. Storey County is home to the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center, which Wikipedia describes as a privately owned park of about 107,000 acres east of Reno along I-80 and one of the largest industrial parks in the United States. Our [Storey County data page](https://wolfmachinenv.com/data/tric-storey-county-growth/) has the full tables, including the other counties. ## The metro area around it The Current Employment Statistics survey shows the same direction in the Reno-Sparks metro area: 20,500 manufacturing jobs in August 2017 and 32,000 in August 2026, when manufacturing made up 11.2 percent of the metro's nonfarm jobs, against 8.4 percent in August 2017. Nevada as a whole went from 49,100 manufacturing jobs to 68,600 over the same years, so the Reno-Sparks area grew faster than the state, 56 percent against 40. Each of those has parts that wear: shafts, bearing seats, seal areas, bores and housings. New equipment wears more slowly than old equipment, but it does wear. When a part fails, the plant needs it made again from a drawing or the old unit, or brought back to size. Our work covers that range.
