# Industrial businesses by county, and what they run

Washoe County had 1,463 construction, 490 transportation and warehousing, 466 manufacturing and 48 mining establishments in 2023, with 44 machinery repair businesses and 20 machine shops. Across Nevada, mining alone had 244 establishments and 14,491 jobs in 2025, at an average annual pay of $125,218.

The first table counts establishments by county and by industry from the Census Bureau's 2023 County Business Patterns; a cell that reads "not published" was withheld by the Census to protect confidentiality. The second table gives Nevada's 2025 establishments, jobs and average annual pay for mining, fabricated metal products, machine shops and machinery repair, from the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages.

## What stands out

Construction is the largest group in most counties: 5,975 establishments statewide against 2,272 in transportation and warehousing and 2,043 in manufacturing. Many of those businesses run machines that wear at shafts, bores, housings and gears. Mining has fewer establishments, 209 statewide in 2023, but the highest average annual pay in the second table.

In Douglas County machine shops outnumber machinery repair businesses, 11 against 8. In Washoe County it is the other way round, 20 machine shops and 44 machinery repair businesses.

## Two sources, two definitions

County Business Patterns counts establishments with paid employees, and the second table counts all establishments covered by unemployment insurance. The years also differ, 2023 against 2025, so the counts for mining (209 against 244) and machinery repair (179 against 354) are not directly comparable. Compare numbers within a table.

## How to use these numbers

The tables show who runs the machines that need parts made and fixed in the counties around our shop. They do not predict how much work any group will send.
