# Machining, fabrication and repair for mining equipment

Nevada's mining sector is large. The Bureau of Labor Statistics counted 244 mining establishments in the state in 2025, with 14,491 jobs at an average annual pay of $125,218 (Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages). Mining operations run crushers, screens, conveyors, pumps and gearboxes that wear, and a machine that sits waiting for a part often costs more than the part does.

## Where mining equipment wears out

Rock does the damage. Crushers and screens take impact and abrasion on every pass, chutes wear where material falls onto them, and conveyor drives carry shock loads through gearboxes and shafts that run for long stretches. The parts that fail are usually the ones that touch the material or carry the load: liners, screen frames, shafts, bearing seats and gear housings.

Mining establishments are spread across several counties. The Census Bureau's 2023 County Business Patterns lists 48 in Washoe County and 14 in Lyon County; the table above has the rest.
