# Machining and repair for companies around the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center

The county is home to the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center, known as TRIC, a privately owned park of about 107,000 acres east of Reno along I-80 (Wikipedia).

## What the park is

Wikipedia describes TRIC as one of the largest industrial parks in the United States, with rail service by Union Pacific and BNSF.

## Two Census counts, two stories

The 2023 ZIP Code Business Patterns list only 10 manufacturing establishments in the park's ZIP code, 89437, along with 9 in transportation and warehousing. County Business Patterns lists 14 manufacturers in Storey County, with 8,699 employees. Fourteen establishments with 8,699 employees means workplaces of a large scale, which is why the establishment count is low and the job count is not. ## Pay and establishments over the decade

Storey County had 27 private manufacturing establishments in 2015 and 38 in 2025. Average annual pay in those jobs rose from $62,099 to $95,182 over the same years (Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages). The County Business Patterns and the Quarterly Census are different Census and BLS programs for different years, so compare numbers within a source, not across them.

## Why plants of that size matter to a machine shop

A large plant runs conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, rotating equipment and fixtures. When something wears or breaks, the part is often needed in one piece from a drawing or the old unit.
