Washoe County had 58 food manufacturing establishments in 2023, including 29 bakeries and tortilla makers, according to the Census Bureau's County Business Patterns. Food and dry product plants run on cutters, feeders, valves and steam lines, and the metal they touch is chosen for corrosion resistance and for how easily it washes down.

Why these plants pick stainless and titanium

Wash water, steam, salt and acids attack plain steel. Stainless steel resists that attack, and titanium resists it too while staying light. Our list for a food processing plant, steam tubes, titanium screws, handles and stainless steel knives, shows the pattern: parts that are handled, heated or washed often and need to keep their shape.

We machine both metals. Read more on the stainless steel and titanium pages, or the stainless steel welding page for fabricated parts.

Rotary valves and aerolocks

A rotary airlock valve, also called a rotary feeder, meters dry product such as flour, grain or powder out of a hopper while keeping air pressure on either side from leaking through. The rotor tips and the housing bore wear against each other. Once the clearance opens, product slips past and the valve loses its seal.

Rebuilding restores that fit. Our list reads: aerolock and rotary valve rebuilding for a dry product and food plant. The steps are on the rotary valve and airlock rebuilding page.

What to send for a valve or tooling job

For a valve, send the make and model plate, a photo of the housing bore and rotor, and a note on the product it moves. For knives, screws and tubes, send the old part or a drawing with the material noted. Attach to the quote request or call (775) 359-5570, Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
