Portable align boring at your site
Portable align boring is line boring done where the machine sits: a boring bar is set up through the worn bores, built up with weld where needed and bored in line, without taking the machine apart and bringing it to the shop. We do portable align boring at your site, along with millwright and field work.

Some bores are on parts too big or too fixed to move: a frame with the machine still attached, a housing bolted into a plant line, a pivot built into a structure. Shipping the whole machine to a shop is not always practical. Portable boring brings the cutting tool to the bore instead.
At a glance
- Line boring done at your site
- Weld build-up of worn bores, then bore in line
- Frames, housings and pivot bores
- Align boring in the shop or at your site
I have used Wolf Machine several times over the past few years for fabricating and repair of parts on my ultralight aircraft. [...] These guys are great to deal with. I wouldn't take my projects anywhere else.
What is portable align boring?
It is the field version of align boring. The idea is the same: bores that share a single centerline are brought back into line with each other. The difference is that the boring equipment is a portable bar that is supported at the machine, rather than a part sitting on a shop machine.
It suits any part that is heavy and awkward to move, or that would take days to strip out of a plant line and put back.
How a field line boring job goes
The first step is a look at the bores and the machine: the pin sizes, the amount of wear and the space around the bores. Worn bores are built up with weld, and the bar is mounted so it can cut all bores on the same axis. Each bore is then cut to size, ready for new bushings or pins.
Machine condition on arrival affects how smoothly this goes, which is why we wrote a separate checklist, getting a machine ready for line boring in the field.
- Send photos, the bore sizes and the machine make and model.
- The bores are reviewed and the setup is planned.
- At your site, the bores are built up where worn.
- The bar is set on the common axis and the bores are cut.
- New bushings or pins are fitted to the finished bores.
What the site needs to provide
Access to the bores, a cleaned and supported machine, and power are the main needs. The field line boring guide covers each in detail. Work happens at your site, so the planning for access, safety and timing is done with you ahead of time.

Asking about a field boring job
Call (775) 359-5570, Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, and describe the machine and the bores. Photos help a great deal: attach them to the quote request with the machine make and model and the pin sizes. The shop answers with questions or a prompt estimate.

How to send us the job
Drawings, CAD files, sketches and photos all help. Put a ruler or tape in your photos, show the worn or broken area up close, and note any part number stamped on it.

Still have a question? Call (775) 359-5570, Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
Which parts can be line bored on site?
Frame, pivot, pin and housing bores are the usual jobs, along with any bores that cannot be brought to the shop.
Do worn bores need repair first?
Often, yes. Oversize bores are built up with weld before they are bored back to size.
What should I send before the visit?
Photos of the bores, pin or bushing sizes, and the machine make and model.
